
Upcoming Agritourism Workshops for Farmers
There are two new upcoming programs for farmers to learn more about implementing agritourism activities on their farms. See the two workshop series below:

Building an Agritourism Experience on Your Farm
This is one of three courses offered as part of the 2023 Ag & Food Producers Academy. Participants can sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 courses. Each course has its own registration page and costs $50.
Course Description:
Agritourism experiences are great ways to welcome community members and visitors to your farm. Many benefits associated with agritourism include increased revenue, diversifying your business through slow seasons, broader awareness of your business, and improving agricultural literacy through youth education. In this course, you will explore if starting or growing agritourism experiences is right for your farm.
Who can sign up for this class?:
This class is open to all 6 northern NY counties (St. Lawrence, Essex, Franklin, Lewis, Clinton or Jefferson).
Class times:
- Online:
- February 1, 6:00-7:30pm
- February 8, 6:00-7:30pm (with guest instructor Lindsey Pashow)
- February 15 6:00-7:30pm
- Field trip:
- February 18, approximately 10am-3pm
- Snow date: Feb 25th
- February 18, approximately 10am-3pm
Course participants will learn:
- How to design an enticing and memorable experience
- Reaching your target audience through marketing and promotion
- Preparing your farm to welcome visitors with considerations for staffing, safety, insurance, liability, and accessibility
Instructor Bios:
Mary Godnick is the Communication Coordinator for Adirondack Harvest, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County that promotes agriculture and forestry products in the Adirondack region. Adirondack Harvest is a cooperative marketing effort that expands awareness of and access to local food and agricultural products, connects people with farmers in their community, and promotes agritourism. AdirondackHarvest.com is visited by over 10,000 people each month, and our annual Harvest Festival and Open Farm Weekend draw almost 5,000 people each year. Mary is also a farmer, growing a diversified veggie, flower and herb you-pick plot called the Creative Kitchen Garden. Mary hosts farm tours, workshops, you-pick nights, and farm-to-table dinners all with the goal to reconnect people to nature and experience food at its source.
Lindsey Pashow is the Agriculture Business Development and Marketing Specialist for Cornell Cooperative Extensions Harvest New York team. Her focus of work includes agritourism, marketing, food safety, industrial hemp, produce auctions, cut flowers, and farm to institution. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing and Master’s in Administration and Leadership from Plattsburgh State University. Lindsey also owns Adirondack View Lavender located in Keeseville, New York.

Fee: $50– If you are a veteran or active military, the full registration fee for one or more of these courses can be paid by FarmOps, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County. Continue to the registration page and complete sign up for courses of your choice.

Monthly Agritourism Workshops From CCE Regional Ag Team
Are you thinking of starting an agritourism business or are you currently operating one? Join our monthly lunch-hour, workshop virtual series and learn how to grow your agritourism business!
The first session will cover the basics of running an agritourism operation. The following sessions will focus on specific topic to help aspiring agritourism entrepreneurs grow their knowledge and profit through this exciting on-farm business.
- January 17: What is Agritourism and Starting an Agritourism Business
- February 20: Where is agritourism allowed?
- March 20: Protecting Your Agritourism Operation: Liability and Insurance
- April 17: Customer Service for Agritourism
- May 15: Tax Considerations for Agritourism
- June 19: Agritourism Pricing Workshop: How to figure out what your customers will bear
- July 17: Marketing Your Agritourism Operation
These workshops are free and pre-registration is required, register for any of the workshops here. All workshops will be recorded and links shared. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
