FreshFoodNY Mobile App Presentation
April 17, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Adirondack Harvest, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County, will offer a presentation on the new FreshFoodNY Mobile App initiative by Jacqueline Lachevre, Systems Consultant with Crave Food Systems on April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Warren County Soil & Water District Office on Schroon River Road in Warrensburgh, NY.
The Farmers Market Federation of NY has partnered with Crave Food Systems to bring farmers an opportunity that will create new access to their business and drive new customers to farmers markets, encouraging them to invest their food dollars in local businesses.
FreshFoodNY is a virtual farmers market where customers can connect with farmers through the convenience of an online connection, pre-order items, pay and then pick up at the farmers market. The app helps farmers meet new customers, better service existing ones and allows vendors to show up at the market with products already sold.
The FreshFoodNY app requires little maintenance, but has tremendous opportunity to positively impact a farmer’s business. If you’re interested in testing out the app, please come to the presentation or let me know promptly and I’ll pass along your information to Jacqueline, who has offered to help farmers set up their profiles. Once there are a critical number of farmers enrolled in the app within a market, they will be able to begin a promotional campaign targeting our area and drive customer traffic to the market on the FreshFoodNY app. The app can also help farmers who not only attend markets but are involved with other forms of direct marketing such as farm stands, stores, etc.
To review, the goal of the state-wide initiative is to increase foot traffic at the markets and business for our New York producers by introducing them to FreshFoodNY. The app is a virtual farmers market that allows consumers to pre-order from vendors, and pick up their orders at the farmers market, at no cost to the vendor or the market. By making local food available online, the app will enhance the current farmers market presence and drive new consumers into the market – prompting them to invest their food dollars in our local producers.
Please contact Teresa Whalen, Adirondack Harvest Board President and Southern Chapter Representative, either by email at taawhalen@yahoo.com, or phone at 518-466-5497 if you are able to attend the presentation. Farmers from throughout the Adirondack region are welcome.
