Franklin County Cooperative Extension held a Franklin County Farm Tour, organized by Jessica Prosper, Agriculture Community Specialist on Oct. 5, 2019.  It was a beautiful day for the event which was held from 11 am to 4 pm.  The “guide yourself tour” brought about 40 people to Adirondack Harvest member, Shady Hill Sheep & Wool Farm in Dickinson Center owned by Roger and Linda Hastings.  Roger led a tour of the barn explaining the program for 120 head of sheep.  Linda led the tour of the pasture showing the sheep and lambs grazing along with two Great Pyrenees guard dogs and Scottish Highland oxen as well as the beautiful view looking down on the Canadian border and St Lawrence River.  Kimberly Richey of Moira explained the properties of wool and demonstrated wool spinning and explained her weaving products. Eunice Terndrup of Virginia, Linda’s cousin, made butter with the help of the farm visitors. She also explained the uses of a number of antique farm kitchen items.  It was a nice day for both visitors and hosts.  Shady Hill Farm is on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
