2020 Markets and COVID-19
A favorite summertime activity for many of us is wandering through our local farmers’ markets, browsing what is in season and handmade goods from regional producers. They are a great place to see your neighbors, support local businesses, and enjoy some fresh air shopping.
This year, in light of COVID-19, markets will look a little different. Thankfully, many farmers’ markets will still be open in the Adirondack region. Planning groups have been working hard to implement new safety protocols so producers can get their products to the people. Vendors will primarily be focused on grocery sales and you may not see food trucks, crafts or other non-essential items usually at markets.
Tips for Visiting Farmers’ Markets During the COVID-19 Pandemic:
Do not go to the market if you are sick
Do not self-serve from vendors tables, they will serve you with pre-packaged goods
Keep with social distancing protocol and stay 6 feet away from anyone, including vendors during your trip
Wear a face mask to protect our farmers and essential workers
Follow lines and directions, many markets will have one-way traffic and distance markings
Bring your own washable reusable bags, many items will already be in individual plastic bags
Have just one person per household do the shopping to help reduce crowding
Use a credit, debit or EBT card when shopping if possible and avoid handling cash
Wash your hands before visiting the market, use hand sanitizer when you leave, and wash your hands again when you get home and have unloaded your bags
Beyond service animals, it is best to leave your dog at home
Some markets will have seniors only hours, please respect age restrictions
Many vendors are offering and encouraging online orders prior to the market that can be picked up at their table the day of the market
