DESCRIPTION:From our friends at CCE St. Lawrence County \n“CCE is offering a FREE gardening course to adult\, low-income* county residents. \nThis course includes six weekly classes geared toward beginning gardeners with limited resources who are eager to grow healthy food for their families. \nSign up now before the class is full! (link below) \nWe will cover how to: \n\nplan a garden\nplant seedlings\nmanage pests\nuse the harvest.\n\nThe focus will be on creative ways to contain costs while growing healthy food. \nSeed to Supper will be offered online starting March 10\, 2021 and meeting every other week on Thursdays until May 19th. Each class will be around 1.5 hours and will be taught by several trained Master Gardener Volunteers and Erica LaFountain\, Community Horticulture Educator. Class dates: 3/10\, 3/24\, 4/7\, 4/14 (moved forward due to spring vacation)\, 5/5\, 5/19. \nParticipants will receive garden kits and manuals to use during and after the course. The kits will include basic tools\, seeds\, seedlings\, and a soil test for the participant’s garden plot. Adults with some space for gardening and internet access\, will be best served this time around\, though there are plans to offer a completely in-person version of this course when it is safe to do so. \nProviding healthy food and a calming outdoor hobby for yourself and your family can be a powerful experience to gain food security and counter stress. Participants will not only have an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills related to food gardening\, but also to connect to local resources and a support system to face their challenges. \nIf you are an adult\, and a low income county resident and you are interested in this class\, please fill out this brief questionnaire and you’ll be contacted within a few days. \n*For the purposes of this program\, anyone who is eligible for SNAP\, Medicaid\, WIC\, or HEAP is also eligible for Seed to Supper”

SUMMARY:Agroforestry Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Join us for two Agroforestry Workshops at SUNY Adirondack. These workshops will involve preparing existing farm fields for future practices that include forest hedgerows to conserve water\, reduce erosion and grow commercial tree crops such as chestnuts. We will be in the field looking at utilizing marginal farmland with productive practices that include edible riparian buffers. The two introductory workshops will be held at the SUNY Adirondack agricultural fields on May 26th & June 8th. The workshops are free and no experience required. Register at event link.
