SUMMARY:Worked/Wild Exhibit at the Adirondack History Museum
DESCRIPTION:Worked/Wild is an award-winning exhibition featuring thought-provoking materials designed to spark visitors’ awareness of how the Adirondack landscape has determined the path of its human history.  Complex themes and differing perspectives of the meaning of “worked” and “wild” compel visitors to explore the multifaceted relationships of our region and its people. Community members contributed to this exhibit; their unique perspectives helped shape this reflection of the people\, environment\, and social structure of Essex County and the Adirondack region.  Features Small Farm Rising film. \nThe Adirondack History Museum is home to the Essex County Historical Society\, an organization dedicated to the ever-evolving interpretation of Adirondack history so as to inspire reflection\, scholarship and comprehension of the land and its inhabitants. We strive to serve as an authentic presentation of the human face of the Adirondacks through our diverse collections\, exhibits\, and education outreach programs. \nHours Wed – Sat 10 – 4/ Sun 12-4

SUMMARY:Guided Farm Tour at littleGrasse Foodworks
DESCRIPTION:Join farmers Bob Washo and Flip Filippi for a tour of their diversified gardens to learn about their Homestead Share\, which grows bulk amounts of vegetables and herbs for participating shareholders to preserve for the off-season. This session will focus on how littleGrasse plans and manages dozens of vegetable and herb crops in a subsistence gardening model that feeds participating shareholders throughout the year. \nJoin us to learn more about this approach from farmers Bob and Flip as well as special guest speakers with their own homestead gardening and preserving experience\, and about how this way of growing food fits into long-standing regional traditions of living off the land. This session is part of a season-long partnership between littleGrasse Community Farm and area non-profit TAUNY called Grow and Tell. This event requires registration and space is limited. Register at: https://tauny.org/sections/4/calendar \nlittleGrasse Foodworks is a “diversified small-scale farm 1 mile from the village of Canton. Using zero pesticides\, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers\, we grow vegetables\, flowers and herbs for people living or working in the Canton-area. The model we follow is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Our CSA encourages a meaningful connection between YOU the shareholders\, US the farmers and THE FOOD that is naturally grown in the 3 acres of gardens. Our share options are unique and delicious! Individuals can sign up for one or all of the three complementary options: Summer you pick share\, Fall (we pick for you) share and Bulk Share. Join us for healthy fresh produce\, family-friendly learning opportunities and the pleasure of community building through food.”

Rather than being a nostalgic\, object-based display\, Worked/Wild is an interactive multimedia experience.

SUMMARY:Wild Foods Plant ID Workshop
DESCRIPTION:All workshops are led by Jane Desotelle and include tea and jelly tasting\, one free plant\, and a list of plants in the botanical sanctuary with common and scientific names. Please pre-register to be sure you get in. Walkways are flat with woodchips\, okay for walkers and wheelchairs. To secure your spot\, please contact Jane at underwoodherbs@gmail.com or 518-563-4777. \nAbout Jane\, Underwood Herbs & the Plattsburgh Botanical Sanctuary \nSince 1978\, I’ve been selling herb teas from the Adirondack region and I still love it! The interest in herb teas and wild foods has never been greater in my lifetime. I hope to keep this interest alive by helping people learn about the value of the plants around them. Plattsburgh Botanical Sanctuary is about 1/2 acre lot inside a city block behind my house with 400 varieties of medicinal and wild food plants.
