SUMMARY:Woods Walk and Artisan Market
DESCRIPTION:Walks and talks will be offered during this day long event along with a gallery of artisans offering demonstrations and hands-on activities. \nFollowing the “Letterboxing Trail” provided by Warren County Planning Department\, the self-guided tree walk will bring you to a campfire tended by owner\, Gary Martin. Gary will have a surprise as you join him and talk about your walk through the woods. During the scheduled mushroom walks at 10:30\, 12:30 and 2:30\, there will be talks about all things “mushroomy”. Discover and identify mushrooms growing in their natural habitat\, discuss the edibility and medicinal value and learn other facts about these amazing fungi as you walk through the woods. Find “weeds” that are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Learn about the ones growing in your yard or garden that you might normally discard. Many can be used in a salad or cooked as a side dish and are so nutritious for you. \nMeanwhile artisans will be set up in and around the barn with their art\, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Handmade soaps\, books\, greeting cards\, quilted items\, pottery\, lotions\, jewelry\, candles\, wood art along with vintage items and displays will be on hand. In addition to the mushroom walks\, Andy LeBlanc will be back with mushroom fun and activities. \nContact information: Winefred Martin\, 518-623-9595 MartinsLumber@hotmail.com 280 Valley Rd. Mud Street Maple\n269 Mud Street\, 12810 – 10 am to 4 pm\nGet Directions \nOne of Thurman’s newer maple operations\, Mud St. Maple\, is rapidly making a name for itself with its products\, especially their Bourbon maple syrup\, maple-glazed walnuts\, raspberry maple cream and several infused maple syrups. Robin and Jeff Mahler have been tapping and boiling\, with great help from family and friends\, for about 10 years\, and recently built their sugar house on Mud Street. It’s a family operation and a labor of love. Says Robin\, “We are passionate about our maple farm.” They will prove their passion this March by welcoming guests both early and late each day\, probably as early as 9 or as late at 6. Says Robin\, “If steam is coming out of the sugar house\, you are welcome to stop in. We love visitors!” \n  \n\n\n2. Blackberry Hill Farm\n15 Mud St.\, 12810  – 10am – 4pm\nGet Directions \n\n\nBlackberry Hill Farm is a diversified family farm that has earned certified organic status. They offer vegetables and herbs; (when in season)\,  also organic chicken\, non-GMO pork and grass-fed beef\, along with their full line of organic breads\, sourdoughs\, English muffins\, pretzels and more. This time of the year it’s pretty quiet at the farm but they are gearing up for spring and the spring litters. The old sugaring shack has now been relegated to wood storage\, and the modern evaporator in the new sugar house now does the work of turning sap into syrup. Marc has many taps on tubing\, but reserves some trees near the sugar house for hanging traditional buckets\, so kids and adults alike can see the charming (more labor-intensive) way of collecting sap. Marc\, known for years on the Maple tour as “Tapper” enjoys showing kids (and adults!) how sap drips from the tree into the buckets\, and sometimes the kids help empty the buckets into a collecting vat so they can be rehung on the trees. There are always fun activities at Adirondack Gold – like snow-shoeing\, if the weather cooperates. The sugarhouse is full of sweet smells and great things to buy\, so be sure to go in to say “Hi” to Cheryl and check out the maple wares for sale.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5. Martin’s Lumber & Artisans Market \n280 Valley Road\, 12885 – 10am – 4pm\nGet Directions \nGet in out of the cold!  The saw-mill is shut down for the winter\, but activities continue at Martin’s Lumber in their various workshops and home\, where they host the Artisan Market.  Tour the shops where friends and neighbors join them for hands-on activates\, demonstrations and sales.
