SUMMARY:Homestead Chicken Harvest Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for chicken harvest day on the farm. Our “broiler” chickens are an integral part of our grass-based pasture rotation. They live in mobile chicken coops\, allowing them to forage along the pastures behind our dairy cows\, adding impotant functions for soil and ecosystem health. In this workshop\, you will learn how to harvest your own chickens at our farm. Get hands-on experience in all aspects of processing. Everyone gets a fresh chicken to take home at the end of the workshop as well. Class size is limited and may fill up fast. Please register at triplegreenjadefarm.com/farm-events/. \nTriple Green Jade is a small organic\, diversified farm on 80 acres bordering the Boquet River where we bake sourdough breads and gourmet crackers with freshly milled local flour. We also have pastured poultry\, free range eggs\, and an emerging micro-dairy.

SUMMARY:Worked/Wild Exhibit at the Adirondack History Museum
DESCRIPTION:Worked/Wild is an award-winning exhibition featuring thought-provoking materials designed to spark visitors’ awareness of how the Adirondack landscape has determined the path of its human history.  Complex themes and differing perspectives of the meaning of “worked” and “wild” compel visitors to explore the multifaceted relationships of our region and its people. Rather than being a nostalgic\, object-based display\, Worked/Wild is an interactive multimedia experience. Community members contributed to this exhibit; their unique perspectives helped shape this reflection of the people\, environment\, and social structure of Essex County and the Adirondack region.  Features Small Farm Rising film. \nThe Adirondack History Museum is home to the Essex County Historical Society\, an organization dedicated to the ever-evolving interpretation of Adirondack history so as to inspire reflection\, scholarship and comprehension of the land and its inhabitants. We strive to serve as an authentic presentation of the human face of the Adirondacks through our diverse collections\, exhibits\, and education outreach programs. \nHours Wed – Sat 10 – 4/ Sun 12-4

SUMMARY:Guided Farm Tour at littleGrasse Foodworks
DESCRIPTION:Join farmers Bob Washo and Flip Filippi for a tour of their diversified gardens to learn about their Homestead Share\, which grows bulk amounts of vegetables and herbs for participating shareholders to preserve for the off-season. This session will focus on how littleGrasse plans and manages dozens of vegetable and herb crops in a subsistence gardening model that feeds participating shareholders throughout the year. \nJoin us to learn more about this approach from farmers Bob and Flip as well as special guest speakers with their own homestead gardening and preserving experience\, and about how this way of growing food fits into long-standing regional traditions of living off the land. This session is part of a season-long partnership between littleGrasse Community Farm and area non-profit TAUNY called Grow and Tell. This event requires registration and space is limited. Register at: https://tauny.org/sections/4/calendar \nlittleGrasse Foodworks is a “diversified small-scale farm 1 mile from the village of Canton. Using zero pesticides\, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers\, we grow vegetables\, flowers and herbs for people living or working in the Canton-area. The model we follow is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Our CSA encourages a meaningful connection between YOU the shareholders\, US the farmers and THE FOOD that is naturally grown in the 3 acres of gardens. Our share options are unique and delicious! Individuals can sign up for one or all of the three complementary options: Summer you pick share\, Fall (we pick for you) share and Bulk Share. Join us for healthy fresh produce\, family-friendly learning opportunities and the pleasure of community building through food.”

SUMMARY:Makers Market & Conservation Conversations
DESCRIPTION:The Hub on the Hill’s weekly Makers-Market will be extended to other partners\, vendors and friends this week! The Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District will be offering resources for landowners and farmers\, as well as demonstrations on how they use drone technology in their work to preserve water quality. Additionally\, the Essex Farm Institute team will be there with information on how you can advocate for a sustainable local food system in the Adirondacks! Including information on their micro-grant program and the recently passed Climate Resilience and Soil Health Act. \nThe Hub on the Hill “works with the farmers and small food businesses of the Adirondack-North Country region to transform the region’s bounty of fresh produce into value-added shelf-stable and frozen products. Our desire to support our local agricultural economy and community\, drives our efforts to coordinate the processing of fresh produce into high quality value-added products. Visit our self-serve market open seven days a week!” \nThe mission of the Adirondack Land Trust is to forever conserve the forests\, farmlands\, waters and wild places that advance the quality of life of our communities and the ecological integrity of the Adirondacks. We use conservation easements and other conservation tools to help farmers plan for their lands and take steps that can provide operating capital as well as strengthen water quality protections while keeping land in farming. \nThe mission of the Essex Farm Institute (EFI) is to advocate for\, support\, and promote resilient\, diversified farms that strengthen the health of natural and human communities in the Adirondacks. \nEssex County Soil and Water Conservation District was formed in 1965. Soil and Water Conservation Districts are special purpose districts\, authorized under NYS law and created to develop and carry out programs of soil\, water and related natural resource conservation by providing technical assistance and programs to residents\, land owners and units of government. Our office is located in the basement of the Essex County Department of Public Works in Elizabethtown\, NY. \n
